I think this is nature's way of telling me that my door has been too open?
Alas, I am going to have to go against nature – the third set of visitors in six weeks arrives on Friday. It's a bitch being so popular.
UPDATE: Another pigeon just flew in my window. They must have migrated from the UK, as the little rat with wings fleed promptly after I yelled "GET OUT!".

A storybook path, the Rhine valley is. Situated on a roughly 250 kilometre north-south stretch between the cities of Koblenz (whose mammoth Deutsche Ecke is pictured below) and Mainz, one can "village hop" via car, train, or boat and find a cornucopia of wine tasting, speciality shops, and food. I just hate to think how clogged the area is in July and August, though.
My partner and I took a Christmas walk up the Quai François Mitterand that night, crossed to Ile de la Cité to see the flame jugglers and hear the bells at a beautifully lit Notre Dame (a restaurant awith a perfet view of the cathedral pays for half the cost of the lighting, by the by). We then crossed over the Seine again, and watched the ice skaters in front of Hotel de Ville, laughing hysterically at the constant falls in the kids rink.
The department store Samarataine, just down the lanterned rue de Rivoli, has some of the most beautiful buildings in Paris. They've closed the place down indefinitely for at least 2 years (while paying their staff in full – would Bloomies ever do that?) as there are structural and wiring problems that were so awful that they only gave one day's notice before shuttering the place. I didn't get a photo of Samarataine, but will the next time I'm there.
